Shades and Blinds for Sliding Glass Doors

There are many options when it comes to covering your sliding glass doors with blinds and shades! While almost every window treatment product may work for your sliding doors, some may be better than others.

Here are some details to think about when considering sliding door shades and blinds:

  1. Are you wanting a window treatment product that operates horizontally (up and down) or vertically (side to side)? While most shading products operate horizontally, many homeowners prefer products that operate vertically in order to be able to push the shade or blind over just enough to crack the door open for a breeze or let the dog out.

  2. Are you interested in motorized shades? Most products offer motorization options, but some don’t. For example, one of the most popular products for sliding glass doors, vertical blinds, do not traditionally offer a motorized option. We can help with sliding door motorized shades!

  3. Is your sliding door really large? If so, your options for shades and blinds may be slightly more limited. Due to some product limitations, we may need to either split the sliding door into multiple shades (usually split on the frame of the door) or choose a window treatment product that allows for larger shades. Motorized shades are often recommended for large sliding doors!

Some of the better window covering products for sliding glass doors include:

  1. Roller Shades: perfect for a clean, modern look.

  2. Honeycomb Shades: offers multiple product options, including a vertical application that allows for side-to-side operation if needed.

  3. Banded Shades: creates a dramatic look.

  4. Vertical Blinds: budget-friendly option for covering sliding doors.

  5. Panel Tracks: great for large sliding doors.
