Shades and Blinds for French Doors

The most common way that customers mount their window treatments on their french doors is mounting directly onto the doors, just above the glass. By mounting the blinds and shades on the french doors, it allows for door access without needing to lift the blinds or shades up first. This gives optimal control to the fresh outdoor air as well as easy access in the unfortunate event there is an emergency.
There are several different product options that work well on french doors, but there are some that are not ideal.
Here are some details to think about when considering french door shades and blinds:
What type of door handles are on the french doors? If your doors have a lever-style handle, many products may not fit neatly behind the handle. For example, products like wood blinds and honeycomb shades may get caught on the door handle, causing potential problems with the blind or shade. Products like roller shades are low profile, typically allowing for an ideal shading solution.
Are you interested in motorized shades? It is not recommended to install motorized blinds or motorized shades on french doors unless it is able to fully raise and lower unattended. For example, if you have a motorized honeycomb shades on a door, press the button to lower the shade, then walk away, the shade will most likely get caught on the door handle. This can cause big problems for your beautiful window treatment!
Is there enough clearance? If your french doors swing out, more likely than not any window treatment product will work. However, if your french doors swing into the room we will want to confirm clearance from walls, trims, furniture, and other obstructions. If there isn’t enough clearance, you may not be able to fully open your french doors!
